Homework due Tuesday November 13th 2012

7th Grade: The students are required to answer the following question demonstrating their understanding of what life was like after the Civil War.  Students need to approach the question thoughtfully, and put themselves in the shoes of African Americans who were once slaves, but had received freedom on paper once the Civil War was over:

  • What do you think African Americans went through in the south after the Civil War? Now that African Americans had freedom was it an easy transition from slavery to freedom, or did they suffer? How did southerners treat newly freed slaves?  How did African Americans feel around whites in the south?
Second, 7th grade students need to answer 3 questions on a city in the United States of their choice.  A few students finished this for today, however, most were unprepared.  The following questions are the first part of their city projects. The City Project is tracing the history of a city and making a brochure to present to the class. The rest of the requirements will be handed out next week.  For Monday,

  • Choose a city in the United States you are interested in learning more about.
  • Name who founded the City and in what year the city was founded.
  • Finally, name the jobs that most people in the city make a living from.
